Three new search engines for your Aboogy

May 30th, 2009

Dear all.
We have added three new search engines you can add to your Aboogy. You can turn them on by clicking at three dots located left of search box at your Aboogy.  Two of them (Baidu and Yandex) we added because our Chinese and Russian users requested.  Enjoy.  Third one, WolframAlpha, was added because it’s a new search engine lots of people consider to be one of major Google competitor. It’s a very specific search engine with goal to sum “all of internet knowledge” and present it to internet users. It’s very hard to describe this search engine so we recommend to try it yourself.
Try to search this phrases:

* new york weather
* 100 km/h in mph
* the matrix, matrix 2, matrix 3
* europe population
* some date

Import and shrink – according to your link

April 9th, 2008

A silly title such as this one is created when you try and sum up in a single sentence the two innovations we are proud to present to you today. Now you have an option on your control panel that says “Visually cut links”.
If taken out of context you would think that it is enough to carefully monitor your links and wait for them to shrink – whatever that means.  Unfortunately, no such luck.
If you choose to activate this option, all of the lengthy link titles within your categories that extend into two or three rows, due to the number of words, will be visually shortened and only take up a single row within a category – the emphasis being on Visual because when you deactivate this option the links are returned to their original state. We feel that your homepage or starting page will be a lot more organized and better laid out.

The second innovation we would like to present is Import and Export for your bookmarks.
Many of you have gotten a few gray hairs waiting for this option and we tried to stall as long as possible, however the pressure was too much for us and we simply had to give in to everyone’s wishes before anyone got hurt. If you’re wondering why we didn’t activate this option earlier I will tell you what I have already said many times before at the risk of sounding boring and repetitive.
Aboogy is your home page and not a storage place for links. A home page should be neat, well laid out, fast and functional. Creating the ideal homepage or starting page is a process and not a rush job where you shake the dirt off your hands, wipe your forehead, sit down and relax. When important links are added one at a time over a period of time, a logical order is created and in the event that you are woken up in the middle of the night you are able to locate a specific link without even looking at the monitor. If you should import all 300 of your bookmarks into Aboogy at once, you will create chaos that can easily be organized by dragging and dropping, however, the fact remains that it will be a lot harder to get used to the order. It seems pointless if it takes you half a minute to locate a link when your favorite website is only a click away!

On the other hand, if you ask me, Export is a more useful option. Now you can save your Aboogy bookmarks as a regular html document and as such they can be used for backups or for transferring to another service which may be better than Aboogy (even though we all know there is no such thing). Bookmarks can be exported all at once, as a separate category or as a group of selected categories.

The import and export options are located within the Aboogy editor. Because this is all relatively new, if you should notice any irregularities please feel free to write your comments here or send us an email.

How does it feel being Aboogy addict?

October 28th, 2007

Not safe. That’s what one good friend of mine has told me.
“My whole web surfing portfolio is placed on your Aboogy and I’m totally hooked on it. It could easily happen that you wake up one morning and decide to reroute your creativeness towards agriculture or something similar, and as a result, me and few thousands of other people around the world would loose our bookmarks. And the worst part is, I wouldn’t know where to start surfing? When I find myself behind someones else’s computer, first thing I do is to log in at my Aboogy even if I know the address I need to visit. Just so you know, if I wake up one morning and Aboogy is not there with my cup of coffee, I’m gathering other members and coming after you with torches and pitchforks!”

I was shaken a bit by her words although she probably didn’t mean it. Anyhow, that was enough for us at Aboogy to start thinking about a blog as communication channel with our members. We want you to feel that someone is actually alive behind this five columns of links that you click on daily. We also want to hear your opinion. How satisfied are you with our service? Our customer support?

In the following posts we will fill you in a story behind Aboogy, about us, about all you want to know. Further more, we beg you not to be too hard on us concerning grammar and spelling on this blog since English is not our first language, and with our formal education long gone, all we have left are Hollywood blockbusters to learn from :)

We would also like to point out that there is a sister blog at http://blog.aboogy.com/hr for Croatian speaking members.
